Simple Gifts Farm
Simple Gifts Farm is located minutes from campus and is committed to animal welfare, organic, sustainable farming, increasing use of green energy, and farming for North Amherst Community Farm (NACF).
The farm runs as an ecological unit integrating vegetable crops and livestock, connects members with food supply, trains next generation of organic farmers through apprenticeship program, and reduces fossil fuel consumption by selling produce and meat locally.
Sustainability efforts include installing a zero-fossil-fuels greenhouse in 2007 (heated by wood pellet boiler and solar hot-water system), installing a 9.8 kW photovoltaic array in 2010, and using oxen powered by grass/hay instead of fossil fuels.
Dave and Jeremy's families live side-by-side, with children sharing meals and enjoying home-grown meat and vegetables.
